'What is Education?' on May 5th!

Updated: Aug 26, 2019

The Mayor's Health Task Force's Lawrence Youth Council (LYC) will be holding a panel discussion and short film premier, “What is Education?” in collaboration with Elevated Thought in just over a week!. The event will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the El Hefni Allied Health Building, 414 Common Street, Lawrence, MA. It will begin at 5:30PM.

As a way to actively support and involve the youth in the promotion of Community Health, primarily Adolescent/Youth Health and other issues, the LYC was created. Each year, a group of 15 youth are asked to select a topic of importance to them that will subsequently be the focus of their work for that year. This year, the focus is on Education, more specifically, experiential learning and its role in developing more rounded individuals, who can make better, more informed decisions regarding their future careers. To date, the LYC has collected over 600 surveys from youth in the city, held a youth community forum, recruited the help of youth from other groups to assist them, met with youth from North Andover High to compare systems, and has met with other individuals involved in Education to give their perspective. Collaborating with Elevated Thought, the LYC went through an intensive curriculum on education that culminated in the production of a short film - developed by LYC and Elevated Thought youth. Please join us for this important discussion - focused on action steps to improve education for youth and ensure their voice is heard.
