Ocean Awareness Contest

Hosted by Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs, the Ocean Awareness Contest is a free, online platform for young people to learn about environmental issues through art-making and creative communication, and become advocates for positive change. The Contest invites students to explore their connection to water and to creatively communicate the need to protect this vital resource and life-sustaining relationship.

This year, we are partnering with Bow Seat to launch the We All Rise Prize, $15,000 in new awards for students in the U.S. who identify as Black, Indigenous, or Latina/o/e in the 2021 Ocean Awareness Contest.

We will also be hosting webinars with members of our We All Rise Prize advisory committee—Nakia Hill (826Boston), Free Marseille (Artists For Humanity), Marquis Victor (Elevated Thought), Wyze Caranji, Yanka Petri (Cambridge Community Television), and Destiny Polk (Radical Black Girl)—to talk about how creative advocacy is a compelling tool to affect social change and a powerful way to empower youth to stand up for the futures they deserve.
