A couple weeks ago, Mosi Makori, an activist and good friend, came and spoke with our Phoenix students. Mosi tied his experience and work with the major theme in our course at the moment - the school to prison pipeline. Mosi works with adults and youth on two important projects he is working on bringing to Lawrence: 1. The Innocence Project works with unjustly incarcerated people, helping to get them out of prison; 2. Resurrection After Incarceration, which is linked to the Innocence Project. It works with exonerated prisoners when they get out of prison. Mosi has organized powerful writing programs with high school youth and prisoners in New Orleans. Meeting with us and other members of the Bread Loaf Network, we began planning ways to connect Phoenix students with students in New Orleans and New York. Stay tuned...
